Sustainability and Precision Ag are the Foundation of Florida Crystals’ Sweet Success
Shortly after the Fanjul family arrived in Florida from Cuba in 1959, they set up a sugar-production plant on 4,000 acres of land in Western Palm Beach County. Harvested by hand, the very first crop produced just 10,000 tons of sugar.
Six decades later, that modest operation now encompasses some 190,000 acres across nearly 5,000 individual fields. And the family’s company – now known as Florida Crystals – is part of the world’s largest refiner and marketer of cane sugar with annual production of more than 6 million tons.

January 31 – Palm Beach County, FL – The Business Development Board of Palm Beach County (BDB) and the School District of Palm Beach County hosted the 2023 Claim Your Future Showcase on January 31, an annual event that shows local high school students the diverse career paths available to them in Palm Beach County. Sponsored by Wells Fargo and located at the Palm Beach County Convention Center, the event included a presentation with various speakers and an exhibitor hall, which inspired 1,200 Palm Beach County students.

Glades Communities’ Unemployment Rates Drop Below Previous Estimates
Estimated unemployment rates in the western Palm Beach County communities of Belle Glade, Pahokee and South Bay all dropped lower than previous estimates by the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey (ACS), according to the latest five-year estimates just released.

In its release of its annual education issue, Legacy Miami and Legacy South Florida magazine published a list of the Top Black Educators in South Florida. Six District administrators are on the list, earning the distinction as Legacy South Florida Top Black Educators of 2022.
